Adopt-a-Family Registration

Every Air and Army Service Member of the Colorado National Guard is invited to participate in this year’s Adopt-a-Family initiative! If the Service Member is not available to fill out the application, a member of his/her immediate Family may fill out the application for him/her.

October 1:  Registration Begins

October 19-November 21:  Ongoing Match-Up Process; you will be notified by email once you/your family is matched

November 18:  Registration Closes

November 27-December 1: Donors will be contacted by Family Program staff to schedule a drop-off date and time

December 11-14: Drop off your items at your scheduled time at the Family Program Centennial Office or Northern Colorado Springs Readiness Center

The purpose of the Adopt-a-Family is to provide dedicated holiday support to Service Members and their Families in need during the month of December. All faiths and religions are welcome to participate! The Adopt-a-Family program matches Service Members and their Families’ needs to those members of the military and community that would like to provide individualized support. The type of support provided is specific to the individuals who have registered. For example, those that register for the Adopt-a-Family can specify that they need sweatshirts, size L, in dark colors. If you are considering utilizing the Santa Shop program instead, please click here to view a comparison of the two programs.  The Adopt-a-Family program works very well for individuals with specific needs, or with Families that have children who will receive no other holiday gifts. All Colorado National Guard Service Members, Air and Army, are invited to register to be ‘adopted’ through the program!

Who Can Apply?

Every Colorado National Guard Air and Army Service Member is invited to apply, whether they are a single Service Member or have a family of 8. Marital status, number of children, and religion are not limiting factors. During the registration process, some information will be asked regarding your need. The date of your application will also be taken into consideration. Those who apply early will have a greater likelihood of getting their needs and wishes fulfilled!

Who Can Fill out the Application?

It does not matter who fills out the application, but the Service Member MUST be aware that the application is being put forth in his/her name. When it comes time to pick up the gifts, an ID may be requested. Please do not hesitate to register for the Adopt-a-Family Program. There are families and individuals within the military and civilian community that are waiting to assist you!

To protect the identity and safety of the Service Members requesting assistance, all parties involved are kept anonymous. We may need to verify your membership in the Colorado National Guard in order to process your application; however, your Chain of Command will NOT be informed that you are participating in the program. The donors will not know the last names of those they have ‘adopted’, and you will not be able to know the name of who donated. We do have a process in place which allows thank-you cards to be delivered to the donors, and we will have thank-you cards available for you to fill out at the pick-up site.

The Match-Up Process

After you register, the information you provided will be used by staff to best match your needs. This will mean different things for different Service Members/Families. Your personal information will not be shared with the donating family; however, they will receive the genders, ages, needs, and wants for everyone you registered.

This year, the Match-Up Process is occurring on a bi-weekly basis. This will allow for the Match-Up Process to occur as quickly as possible so that you will know early in the holiday season whether or not your family has been ‘adopted’. You will be notified when your registration has been received.

Setting Up a Pick-Up Date

By December 8, you can expect a phone call from the Family Program Staff Member that will be manning the pick-up site that you selected (Centennial or Colorado Springs). During this time, you can work together to set a firm date and time for you to pick up your items. All items for children will be unwrapped, for inspection purposes. We want to keep you and your Family safe!

Holiday Meals Now Require a Separate Registration

For those Service Members and Families that need both gift and meal assistance, please register separately; we apologize for the additional time this may take. However, the benefit to the Colorado National Guard Service Members as a whole will be improved by this process. If you have any questions regarding this change, please contact Laine at All Adopt-a-Family participants are urged to register for both the Adopt-a-Family program and for holiday meal assistance.

A Note Regarding Participation in the Santa Shop Program

The Adopt-a-Family program strives to meet the needs and wishes of the particular, individual requests of those who participate. For this reason, Service Members and Families that are ‘adopted’ will not be able to receive the full support of the Santa Shop program that will be received by those who are not ‘adopted’. The Santa Shop program is still a wonderful program that can be utilized by ‘adopted’ Families for holiday cheer and fun! You can enjoy the crafts, hot beverages, meeting Santa, and you are also invited to select unlimited stocking stuffers. The larger gifts, however, will not be available for selection by the ‘adopted’ Service Members and Families.
