Free credit freezes available for consumers

A new federal law allows consumers to freeze and unfreeze their credit files for free. Freezing your credit restricts access to your credit file, making it more difficult for identity thieves to open new accounts in your name. The credit freeze is also available for children under 16. New Security Clearance Guidelines

The federal government recently implemented new security clearance guidelines that make it more important than ever for servicemembers to stay on top of their bills and monitor their credit histories. The Department of Defense (DoD) will now “continuously” monitor the financial status of servicemembers with security clearances. Federal Tuition Assistance Changes for Army Branches

On 6 June 2018, The Secretary of the Army signed Army Directive 2018-09 (Army Tuition Assistance Policy) with an effective implementation date of 5 August 2018. This directive eliminates the one-year or ten-year wait to use Federal Tuition Assistance and applies to all Soldiers, regardless of component. Student Loan Interest Exemption during Qualifying Service

Service members are exempt from paying interest for up to 60 months on certain student loans while serving in an area that qualifies them for special pay. Service members and veterans may receive a refund if they overpaid interest during previous periods of qualifying service.
